Following on from our recent Brexit Round Table

Jun 5th, 2017 | By | Category: News

Our UCU Stirling Branch held a Brexit Round Table on Thursday 25 May, where 6 speakers gave information from various perspectives and answered questions on Brexit.

Following on from the meeting, we are planning to form a Brexit Working Group that would report to our Branch periodically on any important information that might be of use to our members. If you would like to join this group, please email Pam (PMcGibbon2@ucu.org.uk) and let us know what role you would like to take.

UCU recently commissioned YouGov to survey more than 1,000 lecturers and professors in UK higher education. It revealed that, post-Brexit:

  • 76% of non-UK EU academics said they were more likely to consider leaving HE
  • 90% of all academics think Brexit will have a negative impact on HE
  • 42% said they were more likely to consider leaving HE
  • 44% said they know colleagues who have lost access to research funding as a direct result of the Brexit vote.

Following a YouGov survey of higher education (HE) staff UCU general secretary Sally Hunt writes in the Times Higher Education on staff fears over post-Brexit staffing, student recruitment and research funding.
