On 31 January 2017 The Herald printed a factual article on the resolution of UCU’s dispute with the University of Stirling. You can read it here.

Higher education is undergoing a period of significant change. Being a member of UCU is the first step towards tackling:

  • Threats to research funding from Brexit
  • An ongoing lack of job security for many
  • The UK government’s flawed HE bill which is impacting on Scottish higher education through the TEF

We are proud that the union never gave up fighting for the staff here and in other universities, who were on fixed-term contracts.  An estimated 560 staff on fixed term contracts have shared out £1.33 million as a result of the cases that UCU brought to defend the rights of fixed term workers.

We will continue to fight for the rights of all staff, and campaign against the exploitative employment model which underpins much of higher education.
