Precarious work in HE

Dear colleague,

Precarious work in further and higher education: new reports published.

As you will know, UCU has been engaged in writing to institutions asking them to engage with the union in reviewing their use of casual and precarious work contracts.

Over today and tomorrow we are publishing two new reports to support this work. Both of these reports aim to use the available data to show the extent of the use of insecure and precarious contracts in further and higher education. They also provide a ranking of colleges and universities according to their use of insecure and precarious contracts.

The higher education report is covered in the Times Higher here and is available for you to read here.

The further education report is embargoed until tomorrow, so please don’t publicise it on social media until then. You can view this report here.

Full data and ranking tables will be available on the website where you can look up your own institutions as of tomorrow morning.

Please contact Jonathan White on with any queries.
